As the year progresses, it can be a challenge to get your kids up in time for school each morning. While they may have been the perfect example of an “early bird” in August, the fact that the sun is not up early in the day can be a difficult adjustment for many children, regardless of age. Today, we’ll take a look at a few ways you can help your child wake up refreshed and ready to face the day.
Get them to Bed Early
Sleep is a priority, especially for kids. Make sure to set firm bedtimes and help them stick to them. Turn off the TV, read them a story, or create a bedtime ritual of some kind. Many parents have seen success with a nightly cup of chamomile tea. While chamomile can help encourage a relaxed state, it’s more about the symbolism. A nightly act that happens before bed can help your child’s body recognize that bedtime is coming and it’s time to start winding down for the day.
Prepare them Ahead of Time
Rather than rushing about in the morning, trying to make sure everyone is ready on time, help them get ready the night before. Pack a lunch before they go to bed and lay out their clothes for the next day. This way, when your child wakes up, they’ll be able to get dressed and head out the door without making you rush through your morning coffee.
Turn Off the Tablet
This advice is applicable for everyone in your household, not just your child. Numerous experts suggest that reading from a backlit tablet can actually disrupt your sleep cycles. Turn off the tablet an hour before bedtime. If you or your child loves to read before bed, stick with a paperback! You’ll see all the same benefits of reading before bed with none of the negative side effects associated with reading on a tablet.
