Now that summer is almost here, you’re probably looking forward to spending more time with your little one. You might be planning a vacation, or you might have relatives coming to visit, but regardless of your plans, it’s important to help your child keep learning during the summer. As your day care in Union, we believe that learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom, but also in the world around us; through interaction with nature, man-made objects, and other people, children can learn and grow all year long.
Fun Activities for the Summer
There are countless things you can do to help your child learn during the summer, but the activities don’t have to be confined to merely learning numbers, letters, and colors. Incorporating those three things into something fun is a great way to engage your child’s mind. Some ideas for summer activities are:
- Make a Summer Calendar – This is a great way to help your child recognize shapes (squares) for the days of the week, and you can color-code special days such as the Fourth of July or the day grandma and grandpa will arrive.
- Read Books About Summer – If your child loves to go to the beach or the local swimming pool, find books and stories that involve those places. You might even get ideas on what to do the next time you and your little one go for a swim! They’ll also love re-enacting the things their favorite characters have done.
- Explore Nature – Summer is obviously a great time to explore nature, and you can help your child identify insects, leaves, and other things that are found outdoors
These activities, and others, will make the summer both fun and educational for you and your child, and when they’re preparing to come back to day care in Union, they’ll have more knowledge and stories to share!
